The paramount chief of Guan- Agyode traditional council of the Nkwanta south in the Volta region, Nana Obombo Sewurah Lepuwura ii, has called on residents and the people of Nkwanta- south to change their attitude to merit the municipal status as the district have been upgraded to a municipality.
Nana Obombo said this in an interview with Obrempong K. Owusu concerning the lifting of the Nkwanta- South district to municipality status.
The paramount chief welcome the news and thanked the Volta regional minister for granting their request and said, now that the request has been considered and granted, residents must also change their attitudes to merit the municipal status.
He admitted that municipality goes with responsibilities, the structures and the housing system in Nkwanta are not working and that old system of doing things and building haphazardly with no proper layout in the town, need to change if not the name municipality will just be on paper but will not reflect the issues on the ground he noted.
He added that chiefs are responsible for the allocation of land but those who are in charge of planning and the layout are the government agency so the town and country planning has a lot to do.
Nana Obombo Sewurah, made it phatic and stated that politics is beefing into our system but we should try and put that aside so that when things are wrong today, they are wrong tomorrow and dealt with than doing things to favour one in the name of a political party.
He also called on the magistrate court judge to sit up if one is brought before the court irrespective of his or her political affiliation and should be given the same judgment or punishment accordingly.
The Paramount chief also made a call on the district chief executive Elder John Thasun to be up and doing now that the district has moved to municipality status it means that more responsibilities have been placed on him so that the name municipality will just not be on paper but will rather reflect on the grounds.
