The Avenor Traditional Council was inaugurated yesterday by the Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious affairs, Mr. Samuel Kofi Dzamesi at Avenorpeme despite the interim injunction filed by the Anlo State to stop the inauguration.
The Minister advised the people of Avenor to bury their differences and forge ahead in unity for endless development.
Mr. Dzamesi commended the Paramount Chief of Avenor, Torgbui Dorglo Anumah VI, his sub-chiefs and the good people of Avenor for this great achievement of getting a traditional council.
He pointed out that his government led by his Excellency Nana Addo Dunkwa Akuffo Addo has lined up series of programmes including the inauguration of more traditional councils meant for curbing chieftaincy disputes and conflicts in the regions and the country as a whole.
“The inauguration of this council should be seen to integrate the people of the traditional area and work hand in hand for endless development but not to disintegrate them. Again, the new traditional council should not be seen as a platform for litigation but a problem solving one”, he said.
The Minister further appealed to the chiefs to make the area a litigation-free one. Hon. Dzamesi was given a rousing applause when he declared that the Avenor Traditional Council is no more under Anlo Traditional Council.
In his welcome address, the Paramount chief for the area Torgbui Dorgloh Anumah VI also commended the Minister and all those who have contributed in diverse ways towards the restoration and the inauguration of their Traditional Council.
“Avenor is a torch bearer and a very peaceful traditional area. The inauguration of the Avenor Traditional Council would reinstate and restore our identity and values as Chiefs and the sovereign people of Avenor” he said.
The District Chief Executive for the area, Leo-Nelson Adzidigah on his part further appealed to all never to sideline the good people of Anlo Traditional Council because they have brought us this far.
“We are not enemies but rather one people having a common destiny,” the DCE said.
He again charged members of the council to reconcile with all for a united battle for development. He assured them of their readiness to assist and work with them in moving the district forward.
The Member of Parliament for Akatsi South Hon. Bernard Ahiafor in an interview with Volta News Online called for unity because every individual has a role to play in the development agenda of Avenor.
