Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player to score 18 goals in the Champions League in a calendar year following his double against Apoel Nicosia on Tuesday night.
The Real Madrid superstar netted twice in the second half to take his goal tally in the competition to 18 for 2017 alone.
Ronaldo’s goals helped Real Madrid seal qualification to the knockout stage of the Champions League, albeit in second place behind Tottenham Hotspur.
The Portugal international has had a slow start to the season, scoring just a single goal in so far in La Liga this season.
However, his form in the Champions League has been totally different, with the 32-year-old currently topping the scoring charts with eight goals.
Ronaldo is also the Champions League’s highest goal scorer, with eternal rival Lionel Messi closely following in that order.
His 18 Champions League goals for 2017 alone makes him the first player to achieve such a feat.
