Togo international Emmanuel Adebayor has officially adopted the son of his late brother who died five years ago.
Adebayor’s late brother, Peter, died in 2013 leaving behind an 11-year-old son. However, the striker has now elected to cater for his nephew by formally adopting him.
The 33-year-old announced his decision to take in his nephew in an Instagram post, insisting he will now consider the 11-year-old as his “first son”.
The former Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur striker added that his new son will now be known as Junior Emmanuel Adebayor.
“Whoever knows me knows my elder brother, Peter Adebayor, who is no longer with us. Here is his son and today I declare him as my first son.
“Let me introduce you to my first son. His name is Junior Emmanuel Adebayor. Blessing,” he wrote.
Adebayor currently plies his trade with Turkish Super Lig side Istanbul Basakesehir, where he has scored eight goals so far this season.
The Togo star is known for his philanthropic works, and has previously been involved in donations to the less-privileged.
Adebayor is now officially a father of two, with his adopted son now adding to his daughter, Kendra, who is seven years old.
