Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has disclosed that Christian Atsu’s is very close to making a return to full fitness.
The Ghana international has been out for the past four weeks after sustaining an ankle injury while on international duty with the Black Stars.
Atsu has since been out of action for the Magpies, sitting out of key clashes against Bournemouth, Manchester United and Chelsea.
Newcastle United appear to have missed the presence of the former Chelsea winger, having slumped to five losses in the last six Premier League games.
However, the club has been handed a huge boost following remarks from manager Benitez that Atsu could be fit for the weekend’s fixture against Leicester City.
When questioned on when the winger will return, the Spanish coach said: “I don’t know. We will see this week. Atsu was very close, Dummett was very close, Jamaal was better but we will see how he feels during the week.
“They are close but we will see on Tuesday how they feel. They are getting better.”
Newcastle United are currently on just 15 points after 15 Premier League games and sit in 15th position going into the game against the Foxes.
