Former Ghana international Michael Essien has praised the impact of Chelsea N’Golo Kante, insisting he would have loved to play alongside the France midfielder.
Essien spent almost a decade at Stamford Bridge after being signed by Jose Mourinho for a then club record fee of £24.4 million in 2005.
The 35-year-old developed into one of the most reliable midfielders in the world, forming a formidable partnership with Frank Lampard in the centre of the Blues’ setup.
The former Liberty Professional man – who currently lines up for Persib Bandung in the Indonesian league – won a host of trophies with the Blues, including two Premier League titles and a Champions League during his heydays.
However, Essien’s role at Chelsea is now being occupied by Kante, who has won the hearts of many with his tireless efforts in midfield.
Essien is full of praise for Kiante and has revealed that he would have loved to play alongside the former Leicester City anchorman.
